Not so Fun Fact--Did you know that in Kenya, 70-95% of menstruating aged young ladies miss 3-7 days of school a month due to lack of access to sanitary products? Can you imagine period poverty standing in the way of your education? Access to sanitary supplies can be slim to almost nonexistent, especially in more rural areas. When Amondi was in Kenya, she was able to see a government program that focuses on the provision of menstrual products in action. They provided one grade of girls with ONE single use pad each. Due to economics, this option is not available every month, nor is it open to all menstruating aged girls.

The stigma and embarrassment of this normal, natural situation monthly can dramatically inhibit and negatively affect these girls’ educations. Many girls struggle to maintain school attendance in the higher grades due to the need for them to work to help support their families, and period poverty makes the unfortunate choice to cease their education that much easier to make.

Amondi’s Avengers believes that EVERY student, male or female, deserves every opportunity to learn, thrive and grow. But in order to do that, students have to be in the classroom.

On Wishlist Wednesday, we highlight our Wishlists on our social media. The top item on our Amazon list is reusable sanitary pads. We spent an extensive time looking for the best quality and most affordable price for every item on our lists, but this one most of all. We hope to have enough sets donated that each girl can receive a full set. This would allow them to safely, and hygienically continue to attend school, even if they are menstruating.

Please consider helping these girls to consistently maintain their attendance in school by donating these reusable pads.
