During the summer of 2023 I traveled to Mbita, Kenya for an internship with the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology. While there a social science project was conducted determining the correlation between household food security and the education of women. It was discovered that women are vastly undereducated when compared to their male counterparts, but also that school fees are a main contributor to household food insecurity; with many families sacrificing meals to provide an education for their children. Through this project we hope to help alleviate this burden through the acquisition of school supplies and related materials. Amondi's Avengers is accepting donations of all school based items including but not limited to pencils, pens, workbooks, soccer balls, rulers, chalk, and more! We have created multiple Wishlists which can be found in the Donate tab as well as a PO Box for additional supplies to be donated that are not included on the Wishlist!
Like many schools in rural Africa, MPIS lacks the appropriate facilities to provide the highest level of education. More than 100 students are packed into classrooms where they share desks and chairs. The school has been working to raise money to build a library learning center where educational materials can be checked out, students can study, and teachers can hold lessons. The addition of a library will greatly improve the quality of the community and the education available to students in the Mbita area. We want to raise $22,000 so that an adequate library structure can be built and furnished. The link for donations can be found here.
The burden of school fees, uniforms, and lunch can be too much for a majority of families in rural Africa. Many families end up removing their children from school after only a few years of formal education, greatly reducing their children's potential at a high paying career and future success. At the start of 2024 we will be offering the opportunity to sponsor a student to help remove this financial burden and allow children the education they deserve. Stay tuned for more information in the coming months!
